Course Length: 1 Year; 1 Credit
The mission of the Business Department is to teach all students for and about business while developing the critical skills necessary for living and competing in a global community. Information Technology is aligned with district and state standards and supports the school wide efforts in increasing student achievement.
THROUGHOUT THE YEAR STUDENTS WILL:
- Conduct a career survey for information technology (IT).
- Explore communication skills in an IT environment.
- Participate in leadership activities such as those supported by FBLA.
- Maintain a safe IT work environment.
- Utilize technology required in an IT workplace.
- Recognize security issues related to IT.
- Explore legal and ethical issues related to IT.
- Explore the theory and practices of IT.
- Demonstrate oral and written communications skills applicable to an IT environment.
- Examine business ethics in the IT industry.
- Demonstrate the comprehension of basic computer mathematics required for IT.
- Describe the development/evolution of the computer.
- Demonstrate an understanding of spreadsheets for business.
- Determine issues that affect Internet site functionality.
- Utilize different types of search indexes.
- Create HTML pages using an HTML editor.
- Identify when to use various multimedia extension, plugins, and image and multimedia formats.
CLASSROOM POLICIES
- No food or beverages are allowed in the computer lab.
- Keep your password private.
- Use proper care when handling equipment.
- Cheating on assignments and tests will not be tolerated and will result in a grade of ZERO.
HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL...
- Attend class everyday.
- Be on time and ready to work.
- Pace yourself. Use your time wisely to complete assignments.
- If you are absent, find out what you missed.
- Arrange extra time, if needed, to complete assignments.
- Follow directions closely.
- Turn in all assignments.
TESTING
- All tests are performance-based assessments. The final exam will count for 20% of the semester grade.
