This course will give the student an appreciation of the world of business, finance and economics. Topics include how to start and manage a business, how to invest and prepare for retirement, how to avoid common financial mistakes, how our economy works, taxes and career exploration. Free Enterprise is aligned with district and state standards and supports the school wide efforts in increasing student achievement.

THIS COURSE MEETS THE FREE ENTERPRISE/ECONOMICS GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.

bulletarrow: COURSE OBJECTIVES:

At the completion of this course of study, the learner will be able to:

  • Evaluate the role of small business in the economy
  • Demonstrate business and financial management practices needed for entrepreneurs
  • Explain business functions within an organization
  • Discuss principles of economic systems
  • Discuss legal concepts that apply to business
  • Demonstrate marketing concepts
  • Demonstrate general management practices
  • Demonstrate human resource management functions
  • Perform financial analyses to make business decisions
  • Explore personal finance

The course is organized into nine units consisting of multiple lessons within each unit. Unit 2, The Stock Market, will continue throughout the course. All other units will have a test at the end of the lesson.

  • Unit 1 - What is Economics?
  • Unit 2 - The Stock Market
  • Unit 3 - Economic Systems
  • Unit 4 - Supply and Demand
  • Unit 5 - Entrepreneurship
  • Unit 6 - Consumer Savings, Investment, and Credit
  • Unit 7 - Money & Financial Institutions
  • Unit 8 - Economic Measurement
  • Unit 9 - Labor Unions

Grades will be determined based on the student's cumulative earned points weighted by category:

- 60% based on Unit Lessons
- 20% based on Assessments.
- 20% based on Final Exam.

bulletarrow: DUE DATES:

There is a scheduled due date for each unit. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. All assignments must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m of the scheduled due date.

bulletarrow: FINAL EXAM:

The Final Exam must be taken in person. You must score a 60% or higher to pass the course.
