This course is offered to students who have an interest in learning about the fields of business, sales, marketing, and merchandising and management occupations. Students will be trained in economics, sales, marketing research, display and promotion. Students are encouraged to join DECA, the co-curricular student organization that students may join and participate in at the local, state and/or national level. The first semester, Marketing 1, will present an overview of Marketing and the functions of Pricing, Distribution, and Product/Service Management. Marketing is aligned with district and state standards and supports the school wide efforts in increasing student achievement.

At the completion of this course of study, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify employability skills relevant to the marketing profession
  • Analyze factors that influence consumer behavior
  • Practice communication skills needed in a marketing environment
  • Explore technology tools to support marketing operations
  • Explore the legal and ethical environment of the marketing profession
  • Explore economic principles related to marketing
  • Evaluate the role of a marketing business in the economy
  • Evaluate leadership styles appropriate for the marketing workplace
  • Explain fundamental business, management and entrepreneurial concepts that affect business decision making
  • Analyze economic principles and concepts fundamental to marketing
  • Apply concepts and strategies needed for career exploration, development, and growth
  • Explain the concepts and processes associated with distribution
  • Determine pricing strategies to maximize return and meet customer perceptions of value
  • Explain the management of a product/service mix in response to market trends and opportunities

The course is organized into seven units consisting of multiple lessons within each unit.

  • Unit 1 - What is Marketing?
  • Unit 2 - Economics
  • Unit 3 - The Global Marketplace
  • Unit 4 - Interpersonal Skills and Management
  • Unit 5 - The Channels of Distribution
  • Unit 6 - Price Planning
  • Unit 7 - Product and Service Management

Grades will be determined based on the student's cumulative earned points weighted by category:

- 60% based on Unit Lessons
- 20% based on Assessments
- 20% based on Final Exam

There is a scheduled due date for each unit. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. All assignments must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m of the scheduled due date.

bulletblue.gif: FINAL EXAM:

The Final Exam must be taken in person. You must score a 60% or higher to pass the course.
