This course is offered to students who have an interest in learning about the fields of business, sales, marketing, and merchandising and management occupations. Students will be trained in economics, sales, marketing research, display and promotion. Students are encouraged to join DECA, the co-curricular student organization that students may join and participate in at the local, state and/or national level. Marketing 2, the second semester, will focus on Sales, Market Research, and Promotion. Marketing is aligned with district and state standards and supports the school wide efforts in increasing student achievement.

At the completion of this course of study, the learner will be able to:

  • Demonstrate written communication skills for the marketing field
  • Explain fundamental business, management, and entrepreneurial concepts that affect business decision making
  • Analyze the financial concepts used in business decisions
  • Select advertising and promotion strategies to communicate information
  • Explore technology tools to support marketing operations
  • Critique selling concepts
  • Examine retail sales
  • Examine other sales pathways
  • Apply selling techniques
  • Exercise market research methods
  • Analyze advertising and public relations
  • Demonstrate visual merchandising and display techniques
  • Examine legal issues in sales

The course is organized into eight units consisting of multiple lessons within each unit.

  • Unit 1 - Entrepreneurship and The Business Plan
  • Unit 2 - Market Research
  • Unit 3 - Promotional Concepts and Strategies
  • Unit 4 - Visual Merchandising and Display
  • Unit 5 - Advertising and Print Media
  • Unit 6 - Advertising and Broadcast Media
  • Unit 7 - Selling - Preparing for and Initializing a Sale
  • Unit 8 - Selling - Presenting the Product, Handling Objections, and Closing the Sale

Grades will be determined based on the student's cumulative earned points weighted by category:

- 60% based on Unit Lessons
- 20% based on Assessments
- 20% based on Final Exam

There is a scheduled due date for each unit. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. All assignments must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m of the scheduled due date.

The final exam must be taken in person. You must score 60% or higher on the final exam to pass the course.
